About Us

Discover the story behind Louw Wines and our passion for exceptional wines

Den'e & Ian Louw

Some beginnings are noisy. Ours wasn't. Just two South Africans in Kent, one trained in the alchemy of winemaking, the other in the unromantic language of numbers - looking at a chalk hillside and wondering what it might say in a bottle. We found our answer in the Elham Valley: a place of flint and still mornings, where Chardonnay grows taut and mineral, and Pinot Noir speaks in red-fruited whispers. One barrel of each. 300 bottles. Nothing more, nothing less.

Our wines are made with the patience of old Burgundy and the curiosity of new England. Hand-harvested. Wild-fermented. Fifteen months in old French oak. Minimal intervention, maximum intent. We believe in precision, purity, and place, and in letting the land do most of the talking. The rest is just us listening closely. Elham Valley is our first chapter. The next will be written somewhere else on this island, with a different soil underfoot and a different story in the glass. But for now, we're here, watching the mist roll over the vines, and thinking that quiet beginnings might just be the best kind.
